Armando Barreto, Department of Electrical and Computing Engineering,
Promoted to Full Professor
Dr. Barreto received his Electrical Engineering Degrees from UNAM (BSEE, 1987), FIU (MSEE, 1989) and UF (Ph.D., 1993). He joined the FIU in 1994. He has founded the Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Laboratory at FIU. Dr. Barreto was granted tenure and promoted to associate professor in 2000. To date, he has served as major professor for 7 doctoral graduates, and has authored / co-authored more than 180 publications appearing in journals, conference proceedings and book chapters. He has participated in multiple projects amounting to more than $3.8M as PI and more than $7M as Co-PI. He serves as associate editor in DSP/HCI journals (IJHCI, AHCI and ACM TACCESS). |
 Anuradha Godavarty |
Anuradha Godavarty, Department of Biomedical Engineering,
Promoted to Associate Professor
Dr. Godavarty graduated with a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M in 2003 and briefly worked as a Post-Doctoral Associate in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Vermont. She joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering at FIU in August 2004. She works in the area of optical imaging technologies towards breast cancer diagnosis and functional brain mapping. Her research is supported by funding from NIH, DoD, Coulter Foundation, and the Florida Department of Health. Earlier this year, Dr. Godavarty was selected as the finalist for the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Health Heroes Award for her pioneering work on breast cancer detection. |
 Vagelis Hristidis |
Vagelis Hristidis, School of Computing and Information Sciences,
Promoted to Associate Professor
Dr. Hristidis received his BS degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, and the MS and PhD degrees in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego. He joined FIU in 2004. Dr. Hristidis has received funding from the National Science Foundation, Department of Homeland Security and the Kauffman Entrepreneurship Center, including the prestigious NSF CAREER Award. His main research work addresses the problem of bridging the gap between databases and information retrieval. He has published more than 45 research articles, which have received more than 1,500 citations as reported by Google Scholar. He also recently edited and co-authored a book on “Information Discovery on Electronic Health Records”. |
 Masoud Sadjadi |
Masoud Sadjadi, School of Computing and Information Sciences,
Promoted to Associate Professor
Dr. Sadjadi received his B.S. in Hardware Engineering in 1995, M.S. in Software Engineering in 1999, and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Michigan State University in 2004, when he joined FIU. Supported by IBM and NSF, Dr. Sadjadi co-founded the Autonomic Computing Research Laboratory and helped engage students and faculty in globally-spanned, cross-disciplinary research, collaborating with top researchers in Computer Science, Meteorology, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics from USA, Argentina, Brazil, China, France, India, Japan, Mexico, and Spain. Dr. Sadjadi is currently the Principle Investigator of a $2.3 million grant from the NSF PIRE program, conducting research in cyberinfrastructure enablement and facilitating on-site student and faculty research within top research institutions worldwide. According to Google Scholar, his article on Composing Adaptive Software in IEEE Computer was cited 295 times. |
 Chunlei (Peggy) Wang |
Chunlei (Peggy) Wang, Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering,
Promoted to Associate Professor
Dr. Wang (Ph.D. ’97 – Jilin Univ., P.R. China) is an expert in materials science and MEMS/NEMS. Her expertise is specifically in CVD diamond, Si processing, GaN based LED, carbon-MEMS/ NEMS, 3D microbatteries, nanoscale materials, biosensors, and drug delivery. She has published 1 book chapter, 61 journal papers, 28 conference papers and has made 144 conference presentations. Before joining FIU in 2006, she worked as a Lecturer at Jilin University (’95-’01), a Research Associate at Osaka University (’98-’01), and as a postdoctoral fellow and Assistant Researcher at University of California at Irvine (’01-’06). Dr. Wang was a recipient of a Japanese Government (MOMBUSHO) Scholarship (’95-’97), DARPA Young Faculty Award (2008) and the Kauffman Professor Award (2009). She is also a co-founder of Carbon Micro Battery Corp. |
 Yimin Zhu |
Yimin Zhu, Department of Construction Management,
Promoted to Associate Professor
Dr. Zhu received his Ph.D. in 1999 from the Rinker School of Building Construction at the University of Florida. He has served as an assistant professor in the Department of Construction Management at Florida International University (FIU) since January 2004, where he has taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses and performed research in the area of information science and applications to construction. He has published more than 40 technical articles in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. His research has been funded by the Department of Energy, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Electric International (EI), and General Services Administration (GSA). Earlier this year, he received a National Science Foundation grant, the first for his department. |
